TECHNOLOGY – UAV’S – AN INTRODUCTION TO UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES FOR SAR OPS
Instructor: Jason Kamdar
Description: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles have burst upon society like the dot com boom. The commercial “drone” industry is still in its infancy, yet a myriad of capabilities are already available to greatly assist SAR operations. Rapidly deployed thermal imaging from a bird’s eye view, backpack portable UAVs with ground stations, emergency supply delivery, waterproof drones that can launch and land from the water….the list goes on.
This class will provide an overview of how UAV capabilities can be incorporated with your SAR operations to increase the efficiency of the Search and the effectiveness of the Rescue. We will discuss the different types of vehicles and their unique attributes, FLIR thermal imaging capabilities, the Mission Planner software that enables autonomous piloting, and briefly talk about how to get FAA authorization to fly UAVs.
At the end of the lecture we will give a live demonstration of UAVs in flight, so you can see firsthand what these systems can do for your team.
